8 Days Great Wildebeest Migration Safari

Overview

Hop on the amazing Great Wildebeest Safari, an 8-day trip designed to catch the incredible Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration. It happens from December to April when the wildebeests have their babies. We’ll check out the Lake Ndutu area, plus the Southern and Central Serengeti National Park spots where most wildebeests hang out. And don’t forget a visit to the famous Ngorongoro Crater!

Over 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles also live in the Serengeti. They follow the wildebeests looking for new food. Imagine hearing the sound of more than 6 million hooves pounding the grasslands—it’s African wildlife at its best!

Safari Itierary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport – Arusha City

Distance: 55km/1hrs driveOn arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be and great by our transfer driver who will introduce to you about our beautiful country and then escort you to Arusha City in your chosen accommodation for evening rest to get ready for your next day adventure.

Day 2: Arusha City – Tarangire National Park (Manyara region)

Distance: 120km/2hrs drive 

After breakfast we take a short pleasant morning drive to Tarangire National Park, Arrive at the gate our driver will do all the government procedures then proceed to Tarangire for a full day game drive in the park located slightly off the main safari route. Tarangire National Park is a lovely quiet park in Northern Tanzania most famous for its elephant migration, and birding safari with a quiet atmosphere.

Day 3: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park (central-Seronera)

Distance: 245/4.30hrs driveAfter breakfast your driver will be ready to start your trip to our famous park Serengeti National Park ‘The Endless Plain” This Park is well-known for its healthy stock of resident wildlife, particularly the “Big Five”: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo.

Serengeti, a UNESCO world heritage site, is home to around 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles that join the wildebeests’ trek for fresh grazing. Listen to the exotic sounds of over 6 million hooves pounding the open plains of Serengeti just like how you imagined African wildlife to be. After a long day of Safari you will drive to your accommodation for evening leisure and overnight.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park (central-north)

Distance: 155km/5hrs drive 

After breakfast we depart to north Serengeti for wildebeest migration, Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area, with prides of lion up to 30 strong, however, from July to October the area turns into a wildlife paradise. The key feature is the Mara River and it is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River north on one day and then back south a few days later. Please take note – to actually finding a crossing is very difficult and is sometimes a matter of luck.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park (north-full day)

After breakfast, enjoy a full day game drive in the Wagakuria area. Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high in this area of the park, with prides of lion up to 30 strong, however, from August to October the area turns into a wildlife paradise. The key feature is the Mara River and it is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River north on one day and then back south a few days later. Please take note –Finding a crossing is very difficult and is sometimes a matter of luck. A herd can be seen next to river and only decide to cross or not cross until a couple of days later. This area is a stunning region with kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation and open plains, similar to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.Accommodation: on Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 6: Serengeti National Park (north-central)

Distance: 155km/5hrs drive 

After breakfast, we will have a full day game drive in Central Serengeti. Apart from the large mammals, Serengeti is also home to gaudy agama lizards; Rock hyraxes scuffle around the surfaces of the park’s isolated granite koppies. Wide varieties of dung beetle were found, and around 500 bird species have been recoded ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland, to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills. Later in the evening drive to the camp for evening leisure and overnight.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

Distance: 145km/3.30hrs drive 

After breakfast, we take a short pleasant drive to Ngorongoro Conservation area, we will have an early morning game drive to Ngorongoro inside the Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Ngorongoro was established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources. It also safeguards the interests of indigenous people and promotes tourism. In the evening drive to the lodge for evening leisure and overnight.

Day 8: Karatu/Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Kilimanjaro International Airport

Distance: 245km/4hrs drive

After breakfast, we head back to Arusha and pass by a shopping market on the way. After which, we will facilitate your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
